Cervical Cancer Vaccine for NZ

Following from my last post I just read that New Zealand has approved the vaccine for HPV. Of course there may always be potential risks with all medications including vaccines but where we even have a chance of eliminating the leading cause of one of the most common cancers (and the safety looks fine) it certainly seems worth it. Interested to hear what any of you out there think...

Vaccine for Cervical Cancer

HPV (Human Papilloma Virus) is responsible for about 70 percent of cases of cervical cancer - the second most common cancer for women. Canada has recently approved a vaccine for the HPV virus that has proven extremely effective in trials. I think this is a great example of the value of modern medicine and a wake up call for those who deride the traditional medical community. While I am obviously an advocate of healthy eating, exercise and lifestyle as a means of improving health and reducing disease, in cases like this we MUST utilise all available means to improve quality and length of life.

I always knew that beer was good for ya!

Just spotted a cool article here:
Forbes
That alludes to the potential health benefits of moderate beer consumption (dark beer that is...) It's another good example of the moderation message. There are much worse things in our diet (like over use of vegetable oils, highly refined carb foods and transfats) than the occasional beer. Let's face it - it's pretty natural and we've been drinking it for thousands of years...and nothing goes better with a game of rugby than a few beers! Of course too much is too much and will be VERY detrimental but if the rest of your life and health plan is in order and you are doing good amounts of sensible exercise the odd beer just won't be a problem in my humble opinion :-)
